Frequently Asked Questions
What is a doula, and how are you different from a midwife?
A doula is someone who offers emotional, physical and practical support during pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period. Unlike midwives or doctors, I don’t offer medical care - my role is to support you and your choices, helping you feel calm, informed and cared for throughout your journey.
I work alongside midwives and health professionals to make sure you feel fully supported at every step.
What areas do you cover?
I offer in-person support across Hertfordshire, North London, and nearby areas, including St Albans, Watford, Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted, Harpenden, Luton, Chesham, and more.
If you're outside of this area, I also offer virtual antenatal and postnatal support via Zoom.
What kind of support do you offer?
I offer a range of services depending on what you need, including:
Antenatal education (with or without hypnobirthing)
Birth doula support – continuous care during labour and birth
Postnatal doula support – help in the early days with feeding, baby care, and emotional reassurance
Overnight doula support – so you can get some well-earned rest
Virtual doula packages for families outside my local area
You can find more detail on all of these on my Services page.
When should I get in touch with a doula?
Some people contact me very early in pregnancy, others a bit later on - both are absolutely fine! If you’re thinking about having support during your birth or afterwards, the earlier we connect, the more time we have to build a relationship and plan what you’d like.
Even if you’re unsure of what kind of support you want, I’m happy to chat things through.
Do you offer hypnobirthing?
Yes! I’m trained as a Mindful Natal® hypnobirthing teacher and I offer this as an optional add-on to my antenatal sessions and birth packages. It’s a modern, inclusive approach to hypnobirthing that blends science, relaxation techniques, and practical tools to help you feel confident and calm about birth.
What’s included in your birth doula package?
My birth support includes:
A free introductory call
Two antenatal visits at your home
24/7 on-call support from 38 weeks
Continuous support during labour and birth
Support with feeding after birth
One postnatal check-in visit
Can you support me if I’m having a planned c-section?
Absolutely. I support all types of birth, including planned caesareans. A doula can still be a huge source of comfort and reassurance during a c-section - helping you prepare, supporting you on the day, and offering postnatal care too.
What if my partner is unsure about hiring a doula?
Totally normal! Some partners worry that a doula might take their place - but it’s actually the opposite. I’m here to support both of you, making sure your partner feels informed, confident and involved. Most partners end up feeling really grateful to have someone else on hand for reassurance and guidance.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes, I offer flexible payment options for my birth and postnatal packages. We can talk about what works best for you when we chat.
How do I book or find out more?
Just head to my Contact page or drop me an email. We’ll arrange a free, informal chat to see if I’m the right fit for you and what kind of support might suit your family best. There’s no pressure - just a friendly conversation.
